Artist Statement
“My goal is to use color, texture, history, world issues, heart, soul, and spirit to lift up the others. My art is a reflection of the joys and pains of life. It is that ability to navigate peace, joy, hope, and tragedy of life conveyed in art. I am on a journey to paint the voice of the world from the past to the present. And along the way make the world a little brighter with art :)” Janie McGee

about me...
See Jane Dream is located in the Greater Washington D.C. metropolitan. I am an artist, illustrator, and author. For 478years, I have created volumes of high-quality fine art, paintings, illustrations, whimsical art, home decor, and greeting cards that document the human spirit and the Black experience.
I am a mixed-media artist who enjoys using a wide range of mediums to create compelling imagery, textures, and emotions. I graduated from Ohio Dominican College with a BFA in 1986. Since then, I have created volumes of inspirational, spirited, and provoking artwork.
My love for creating art from history began one summer on a project at the University of Cincinnati. I worked for 10 weeks in the Harriet Beecher Stowe House creating mosaics depicting the Underground Railroad. That life-changing experience set a flame in my spirit to create images that tell the story of Blacks’ struggles and triumphs in America. In addition, I have committed to producing artwork reflecting my faith in God and my desire to help with world causes. In the past, my art has been used for Breast Cancer Awareness for African-American women, orphans, and feeding programs in Tanzania, and to create awareness for ongoing slavery worldwide.
As a native of Columbus Ohio, I was blessed to work with many great Black artists as a child and young adult. My brother, Charles Dillard, trained me. Later as an artist, I have had opportunities to exhibit at ACE art gallery and work with an outstanding group of artists:
Aminah Robinson, Larry Collins, Kojo, and Smokey to name a few. I have also exhibited and worked with Thomas Blackshear, as my mentor, Clarence Shivers, Wallace Conway, Chester Commodore, and Michael Singletary. The use of impressionism techniques conveys purity in voice and color.
My art is both whimsical and expressive in texture and form. I have created lines of products that translate into Spoke Art for everyday home décor. Storytelling through the expression! Enjoy my site of 45 professional years as an artist. I hope my art inspires your faith, life, and hope!
